An Old Krukenberg Girl

These pictures came originally from a site called the “Amputee-Devotee Picturepage”. This was originally hosted at the now-defunct Geocities, but wouldn’t you know it, it has been preserved here, and pictures of the girl in question can be retrieved here.

The Krukenberg procedure is an alternative to prostheses to compensate for loss of the hands. Unlike prostheses, since it involves refashioning existing body tissues, it makes maximum use of the patient’s remaining sense of touch. It’s not commonly seen nowadays, because it seems to be considered “ugly”. Do you think it is ugly?
